My Art Blog

Welcome!

Note ~ September 2011

This was the Welcome Page from my very first website (2005-2006). It still expresses my intentions, so I've left it in. If you do land here, make sure you check out some current posts in the Favourite Posts section on the Homepage, or check in the Post Categories for something that might interest you.

Thanks,

As always Welcome and enjoy your visit to Joan A Hamilton's Digital (Watercolour) Painting Site!

Every time I paint something using my computer program Corel Painter 9.5 (I now use Painter 12), a Wacom tablet and Intuos pen it feels like ‘magic’ to me!  A feeling of joy and satisfaction occurs when the lines and colours I envision appear on the blank canvas and the connection between mind, eye and hand is made.

Before this can happen I face the same decisions and choices a traditional artist does. The kind of paper, the specific tool i.e.: pencil, the kind of pencil, the colour, opacity, intensity, and how thick the line … the possibilities are almost infinite.

I invite you to enter my virtual art studio /gallery and discover what ‘digital painting’ is all about for me.

The purpose of this blog will be to chat about what is happening in my art world and how things are progressing. I will be doing illustrated demonstrations of the techniques I use to paint digitally. It is a fascinating medium and it is gaining recognition as such, more and more as time goes on.

I am constantly challenged by the intricacies and complexities of the technical aspects of this medium. Connecting with other artists to share the joys and sorrows of creating art and then trying to market it in today's competitive market is also one of my goals.

This website features my original digital art, and demonstrations of some of my techniques. I invite you to have a look! Feel free to comment, ask questions or just say hello!
