Using a variety of brushes to create the visual language of watercolour in digital watercolourUsing a variety of brushes I can create watercolour visual language in my paintings. Another snowy scene composed from my imagination.
(JudithP.... it took me a lot of tries and I'm still not sure the perspective is right) In The Land of Ice and Snow Copyright Joan A Hamilton
I used John Derry's WC Brushes for the sky to get the rough edges on the clouds. Do you think they need some of the hard edges softened? Skip's Splashing Water and a couple of my own completed the brush work. I hope to write a post with some samples of brushwork about this soon! The Dig Square Pool Blender used with the Well at 0 % and sometimes with colour on top of watercolour washes is fast becoming one of my favourite brushes. Look at David Taylor Australian Artist I really love this watercolourist. He is superb at making every stroke count. I could look at his paintings for hours. Suprisingly, I haven't done any studies of his paintings, but I realized after painting In the Land of Ice and Snow that I am being influenced by Taylor's style. (I looked at his work again after I painted this one...honest!) You can see how he may have inspired some of Skip's brushes. I know Skip really likes his work too! Quote from David Taylor's Home Page: "It is of high importance for me to say more with less...to discard the inessential...to be simple and poetic not only in the treatment of the subject but in the technical manner of the painting." Something I will be striving for in my paintings! Happy Painting!
