Taking a day off to paint...Work in Progress Great Blue Heron

I decided I needed a day of peace, so I am not working on my new website and blog (too much!) and am painting instead. I opened a new gallery called Work in Progress, but realized I can probably add a picture right in the blog post. This is based on a photo reference by Michael Oberman who is a fantastic nature and wildlife photographer I found on Flickr. He kindly gave me permission to use it. I find these birds awesome, fascinating and somehow magical. I think it's because when I was a kid the 'Great' part really impressed me. It wasn't just a Blue Heron it was a Great Blue Heron!
