Is possible to paint digital watercolours with the same characteristics as traditional watercolours?

This is the big question I have been asking myself and working on for several years. Why don't I just do "real" watercolours is a question I have been asked many times. Because I'm stubborn I guess! lol!

What I'm doing is fairly unique

  • There are thousands and thousands (maybe even millions!) of people painting watercolours traditionally. I have seen plenty of really good watercolours online, and plenty in the 'not so good, and definitely need improvement' category. Many of mine belong in there too, so this is not a cheap shot!)
  • There are not even thousands (that I can find anyway!) of people painting watercolours using digital watercolour brushes (both types), I boldly surmise.
  • So that makes my art much more unique (I think that comment deserves some italics!!)
I believe my kind of art will grow in the future, maybe I could even be classed as a pioneer
  • All digitally painted art is still in the pioneer stage of it's history. It's still a new thing!
  • Being a pioneer is hard work because you have to change the way things are done and the way people think about it.
  • You have to really believe in what you are doing and why.
That brings me to some uncomfortable questions and answers ... usually related to time and money. Hey isn't that what most people's lives revolve around, on a certain level anyway.

What I need is an art patron! If anyone is interested please get in touch! :)

I say that half jokingly. Printing my work for a portfolio of some kind is expensive (when you don't make any money, there I've said it out loud, any monetary investment on my part is expensive.) Taking courses is expensive, running a website/blog is expensive, anything I do to further my art becomes expensive when you don't have any income from it.

This is not a unique situation, there are hundreds of thousands of artists in the same position. That's why there is so much competition online for a teensy share in the online art market.

Then there's the Online Marketing market which is overloaded with blogs on the subject of blogging, entrepeneurs apparently making good money telling you how to blog etc...

How much do I really believe in what I am doing? Only time will really tell.

Meanwhile, I'll keep working on painting watercolours from scratch digitally.

How much do you believe in yourself? I would love to hear about it. Tell me your story, and maybe I will do a blog post about YOU!
