  • Tea Towel: (On a new layer) Soft Broad Brush in a very pale blue with 0% wet fringe to do a wash of the tea towel areas
  • Stripes: (On a new layer) Very subtle gradations of the colour blue using a PSW flattened slightly.
  • Use big enough brushes to not have to make a lot of strokes
  • Reduce the opacity on the Layers slider to make the horizontal stripes lighter in colour because you will need to add more blue to build the vertical stripes.
  • Fine Tip Marker (On a new layer) in a darker blue to do the intersections in  the stripes, then blend with Soft  Pointed Stump Blender (regular) or Just Add Water Blender (JAW)
  • Try to leave a little bit of darker paint on the darker edges of the vertical strips
  • Reduce the opacity on the Layers slider to reduce the intensity of the blue
  • Pure Water Brush (On a new layer) with an 85% wet fringe used to glaze over the shadows on the tea towel leaving a darker fringe. You will notice that only the outside edges of these strokes will have a darker fringe.

  • Pointed Simple Water (PSW) (On a new layer) wash for darker shadows in tea towel
  • Fine Tip Marker (On a new layer) in royal blue to add darker stripes
  • Blend with JAW
  • add a little WC glaze (On a new WC layer)
  • you can Adjust the Colour of this area if it is not the correct blue (in Effects menu)

JOAN: This group of painting demonstrations is the best that I've ever seen. I feel that you are talking directly to me as you paint. But even more than that, I'm really impressed that you speak (type) your thoughts as you go along. Thank you for the insight into a true artist.

Of course the painting is wonderful. Do more still life. This one is great.
