Here Comes The Sun -a digital watercolour of an iris blooming in the spring sunshine
Used some techniques I haven't used for awhile in this one. Working on getting a grainy wet look. I lifted the canvas to the watercolour layer after I was finished painting the whole thing and then wet the layer very slightly. It's worth experimenting with different papers and degrees of wetness with this technique. I also fiddled around with the brightmness contrast level and the dye concentration. I usually have to paint some parts a little again too. It seems as a digital painting is never done. I find it hard to stop and have ruined pieces by getting carried away with the background. The iris was painted with the digital watercolour brushes for the most part. There are a few areas with spots to add texture. They were done with the Tinting Salty brush variant and and Pen brush. As usual I rely on blending and being able to lighten and darken areas by lassooing them before using the brightness/contrast controls. I was aimng for a few shafts of sunlight ...hence the title 'Here Comes the Sun." (Thanks Beatles!) Posted in Miscellaneous on May 24th, 2009. Share on StumbleUpon, Delicious or Digg.
