Field Beyond Digital Watercolour with new techniques in Progress

Field Beyond View Five in the Work in Progress Gallery Field Beyond Work in Progress

Not sure if I can Blob and Blog (my definition) at the same time, but I thought it might be amusing to try.
To recap a little of what I did yesterday (view 5) I did the basic sketch on a separate layer with Artist Chalk. It doesn't usually end up as part of the image after the layers are dropped so many times in the course of the painting. I used a very similar technique to the one I used for the trees I blogged about a couple of days ago.

I found a really neat brush called Splashy in the Web Geometric category. (One of the Extra brushes that came with Corel Painter 11)
It looks like this:

This splashy blob has a nice mix of colurs that will look very earthy when blended and added to with wet airbrushes and digital watercolours. Many things are possible. Below is an example of one look:

Well I've blobbed and blended and lassooed, distorted and squirted enough for now on this painting. I'm feeling very discouraged because it looks like the Jolly Green Giant is about to come walking over the field into my painting, (and no, that is not a good thing!) What I mean is - it is too fussy, too green, too detailed, not wet painterly enough at this point. It still looks too much like an illustration from a storybook. What do you think?

Your new techniques are truly amazing! Wip posted in 'My new techniques for digital watercolour using Liquid Ink Brushes' looks really fresh and natural. These unexpected effects are what I like the most in watercolorus. I have to try these too ;)

Wait till you see the results of the new brushes I bought yesterday! They are John Derry's Watercolour brushes and they cost me $39. Money well spent because I've been trying to get more randomness and wetness into my digital watercolours. It will be more possible with these brushes, although they will take some practice! I'll put a link to his blog in my blogroll.

Here's to 'wet and wild' painting!

I finished this painting today. I had kind of given up on it the other day because it looks like a vegetable ad for the Jolly Green Giant! It has been toned down a bit and the fields and sky have been redone using some of John Derry's new Watercolour Brushes. It's a bit over the top with every darn weed and leaf, but I'll get better at depicting these things less literally eventually. At least I hope so!

It definitely looks much softer and natural with them; paper texture gives this feeling too. Lately I was looking at these brushes, sample paintings on PixlBlog http://pixlart.blogspot.com/ look really promissing. What do you think about them? I wonder I you'd like to post some examples and tutorials about their usage?
By the way... I don't know why I like a lot 'Vernon Falls Yosemite'. In my opinion it's very crisp and saturated to be real watercolour thing, but somehow the shapes of sharp light and shadow in this painting look really appealing to my eye.
