Do You Know Any Artist Who is Not Inspired By Vincent Van Gogh?

This post is really about being inspired by two artists one living and one dead

A slideshow of Vincent Van Gogh's work set to the song "Vincent" by Don McLean. It's part of an art and creative writing lesson plan for the patients at Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield. Compiled by artist Anthony DiFatta, who also suffers from mental illness and teaches art to other adults with mental illness. His work can be found at www.anthonydifatta.net .

Anthony DiFatta's Scapes and Portraits

I was really impressed with Anthony's work, particularly in his Scapes gallery  (which the link points to). I can learn much from his use of colour, simpler shapes and expressive brushwork that I can try to apply to my watercolours. I did see Van Gogh's influence in Antony's work in his Portrait Gallery. The colours and the stark honesty on the faces reminded me of Van Gogh.

Vincent Van Gogh always inspires me. His paintings always touch a place deep inside me.

His superb sense of colour, his broken brushstrokes, the strong symbolic elements of nature, the pure quality of the light in his paintings enchanted me many, many years ago when I saw some of his paintings on exhibit. I've never forgotten it. Seeing paintings live in a museum is so different than looking at them in books, or on the internet. In this day and age of instant info at our fingertips we forget that the art we see on the internet is not the real thing. That somewhere a painting or a printout by the artist, in the case of digital painters, exists.

How about you? What do Van Gogh's paintings make you feel or how do they inspire you? I would love to hear from you on this.

Have a great day whatevever day it is!
Cheers,
