  1. The first step was to do a sketch on a new layer in chalk.
  2. Then open a new layer and using a simple digital watercolour brush apply some light washes and blend them in with a diffuser brush or dry the layer and use smudge and blend tools. It's a matter of preference in what tool you use because there are many blending methods available. The best thing to do is experiment and develop your own custom versions.

(Note 12/5/09 - this is small and hard to see, but basically just shows the different layers of building up the colour- * Future demo's are a bit larger)

3. Using  a simple water digital watercolour contine to shape the apple with further layers of light washes. Use a new layer each wash and then you can darken or lighten it as desired or change the opacity on the layer slider. The Layers Palette shows the Sketch layer, the first, second and third wash layers at this point.

4. I cloned the image at this point because I wanted to save the opened layers just in case. Cloning it drops the layers and drys the digital watercolour layer as well. I did some blending and pulling of colour around to add definition to the apples and the folds in the cloth. I also added some detail with a fine tip digital watercolour in the stem area and in the stem itself. Because I cloned this and dropped the layers earlier, my wash and sketch layers are all on the canvas now.

This is a Work in Progress. I hope to continue with it tomorrow...
