Digital Watercolour Demonstration- Gather Round
I'm going to call this one 'Gather Round,' because the phrase keeps popping into my mind when I look at it. This one is for Glenn, my youngest brother and Olivia my niece. I am still trying to get it to look like real watercolours, and lately have been wondering if this is a good diretion to keep going in? Coming to the realization that all the tools at my disposal are really a whole new medium on their own and I should consider them as such. On a certain level I obviously already do, but maybe I have to not even think of the digital watercolours as brushes emulating real brushes. Perhaps this is all just supreme frustration at not being able to acheive the look I want, and I'm blaming it on my tools rather than a lack of vision or skill on my part. These technical issues tend to preoccupy me and leave little room in my mind for the other things I should be learning about painting. For example I got all the way through this painting (over a couple of days and numerous different backgrounds) without realizing that the pears were the same colour as the orange. (I've since made them a bit greener.) My husband pointed it out to me. Said it confused him! lol! Anyway he was right. I was so focused on the other aspects that I strayed from the original palette and colour plan. These things happen gradually, ususally when I decide to change the colour scheme of my reference. If the orange hadn't been in the painting, the pears wouldn't have looked so orange! Oh well, it turned out not too badly after the greening of the pears. They're perfect to eat at this point!
