A Digital Abstract Watercolour by Joan A Hamilton

Warping and Distorting the View... has anyone ever accused you of doing that!

I was getting tired of painting trees and kinky tree tops! Playing around with trying to find ways to mix and blend colours. This started out as a vertical bundle of strokes in my chosen colours. Then I dropped and dried them and did some Image Warping until I could see a pattern of colours and shapes I liked. Then, I used some of the Distortion Tool brushes to move the paint around, but didn't actually add any paint with them.
As far as I can remember I only added a few very pale wet glazes in places and some wet pencil around some shapes to accentuate them. I probably used my Glow brush to lighten some areas too.
The big brown thing on the right was added after everything else was nearly done. I purposely stopped right about there because I didn't want to suggest anything more! I wanted you to see what you saw and not influence you anymore. The whole thing happened rather fast. This was so fun and very useful for helping me to loosen up my watercolours. Think I'll do some more abstract watercolours! See ... not even a tree in sight!

Art can also be decorative, fun, playful eye candy. The barrier between "fine art" and design, has been broken down over the last 20 years giving the art world diversity like no other time in history. From art stars and critical favorites to illustrators and outsider art, I'm interested in it all.
